Emergency Medical Technician – Basic

Federal and State financial aid regulations require student’s enrollment in a degree-seeking, eligible program of study in order to receive federal or state aid.   The EMT Basic program does not meet this minimum academic requirement (due to the length of the program).    Students may seek out private loans to assist with their school expenses but please remember to borrow wisely as loans must be repaid along with accrued interest charges.  Origination fees are not currently assessed on amounts borrowed.  Interest rates are variable, based on your credit rating, and a co-signer may be required.  Please contact our office for more information.

Cost of Attendance (COA)

Your COA will be based on your out-of-pocket tuition and fee charges and allowances will be given for living and transportation based on the number of months you are enrolled in school.  This will be the maximum amount you can borrow from a private lender.

Please call or come by our office so we can evaluate your plan of study and provide a reasonable estimate of your expenses while enrolled at UTHSCSA.

Private Loan Disbursement Procedure

Upon receipt of funds from your private lender UTHSCSA will apply the amount received to your tuition and fee balance first before creating a refund for you.

Refunds of any credit balance will be sent to you by the following means:

  • Paper Check – checks are usually delivered to your home address within 3 to 5 business days. Your banking institution may place up to a 10-day hold on your check.   During the Winter Holiday’s, student’s electing to receive paper checks may wait an additional 3 to 5 business days to receive their funds due to bank/post office/university closures.
  • Direct Deposit – direct deposits are usually received within 1 to 2 business days. You must sign up for this service through your student portal at least 10 days before your scheduled disbursement.
