Federal Work Study

What Types of Jobs are Available?

The Veteran Services and Financial Aid office works through our on campus and off campus partners to provide employment opportunities.

Positions available (see below) can involve tutoring fellow students, working as a technician or research assistant or even working within the community in service positions.  We also offer office assistant and various media positions.

All work-study jobs should provide either a benefit to the student directly (such as a better understanding of future career possibilities) or should benefit your classmates (such as helping the Library with extending their hours of operation for students or tutoring).  All work study jobs must be performed under direct supervision, by an authorized supervisor.

Eligibility Requirements

Federal Work-Study employment is a financial aid program that is awarded to enrolled UT Health San Antonio students who have financial need. Below are general guidelines and do not reflect all possible scenarios.

  1. Each student must apply for Federal financial aid using the FAFSA and indicate they are interested in the work-study program
  2. Each student must have financial need as determined using federal guidelines
  3. Each student must apply for a position as specified by our individual partners
  4. Students must be enrolled at least half time

Work-study is an employment opportunity offered to you through Veteran Services and Financial Aid, and is a need-based program, so not all students qualify. If you qualify and funds are available, you will receive work-study as part of your award package. Should our funding deplete, students may request to be placed on a waiting list for possible future funding.

Working at a state institution requires a certain amount of paperwork some of which is completed (or partially completed) by the hiring department. The rest are completed by the employee.  Once you have been awarded work study funds and hired, a required forms link will be emailed to you.  After completing these forms you will need to bring them in person to  Veteran Services and Financial Aid (Dolph Briscoe Library 4.064).
