Hazlewood Exemption - Student Services

Hazlewood Benefits:

The Hazlewood Exemption provides an education benefit to honorably discharged or separated Texas veterans and to eligible dependent children and spouses of Texas veterans. The types of programs are listed below (full eligibility criteria are in the Hazlewood application checklist):

Standard – for the veteran attending UT Health San Antonio
Legacy – for the child of the veteran
Death or Disability – spouse of the veteran
Death or Disability – child of the veteran

Eligible veterans, their children and spouses may receive an exemption from the payment of all tuition, and certain fees for up to 150 semester credit hours, provided they are enrolled in state-funded courses. While most fees are covered, the list below shows fees that are not covered by the exemption:

Malpractice fee
Student health insurance
Student services fee
Medical services fee
Fitness center fee

Forms:

The first three forms are required from all students the first time they request the Hazlewood exemption at UT Health San Antonio, and thereafter only the renewal form is required.

Hazlewood Deadlines:

Complete applications and all supporting documentation must be received by UT Health San Antonio no later than the last day of class in order to be evaluated for the semester or term.
Medical and dental students must submit all required documents before the last day of classes for the academic year.
Requests for retroactive application of benefits to an earlier term, after the last class day of the term or academic year the exemption is requested for, cannot be accepted.
