CHAPTER 30 – Montgomery GI BILL® (MGIB)

Chapter 30 has four eligibility categories but generally, the benefits apply to:

  • Veterans who first entered active duty service after June 30, 1985
  • Veterans who had their pay reduced $100 a month for 12 months
  • Veterans who received an honorable discharge (this is the only status eligible)
  • Veterans have a High School Diploma or GED

Officers who obtained their commission after December 31, 1976, through a military academy, or through a ROTC scholarship program are not eligible.

  • Entitlement:  Generally provides up to 36 months of education benefits
  • Delimiting Date:  Generally 10 years after release from active duty

Chapter 30 – Benefits:

  • Veterans using CH30 receive a monthly stipend based on their type of training taken, length of service, eligible category and enrollment status (i.e. full time, half time, etc.)
  • Students receiving CH 30 must verify their enrollment monthly by logging in to:  Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE)  or by calling 1-877-823-2378
