Scholarships for Physical Therapy Students

UTHSCSA PHYSICAL THERAPY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ENDOWMENT

Scholarship support for students who are active members of the UTHSCSA Physical Therapy Alumni Association.

BENEFACTOR BACKGROUND

The Physical Therapy Alumni Association Endowment was established through the generosity of alumni from the UT Health Science Center Physical Therapy program.  Alumni members, realizing that incoming and current PT student funds are needed during school, support this endowment to allow students the opportunity to focus on their studies.

Mr. Matt Karns was a physical therapist in San Antonio, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in 2007.  Friends and family, as well as faculty of the UT Health Science Center Department of Physical Therapy created the Matt Karns Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Physical Therapy in his memory.  Mr. Karns was very active in teaching physical therapy students, both in the classroom and the clinical setting and was involved in fundraising for the benefit of the San Antonio community.

BARNETT ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Support scholarships for deserving students enrolled in their 1st or 2nd year in the Physical Therapy Program.

BENEFACTOR BACKGROUND

The Barnett Endowed Scholarship is established in honor of Duane Barnett, M.D., father of Julie Barnett, PT, D.P.T., M.T.C. Dr. Duane Barnett, retired general surgeon, has committed his life to medicine through the compassionate care he has delivered to his patients. Because of his love of medicine and strong belief in education, Dr. Barnett continues to be a role model to future health professionals by volunteering his time to the Department of Physical Therapy. His emphasis in mentorship and his belief in the value of excellent medical education are the reasons why he chose to support student scholarship awards. Both Dr. Duane and Julie Barnett encourage students to become highly trained, ethical, and compassionate health professionals through their role modeling and also through the support of this scholarship.
