How does Bold Promise work?
Students do not need to apply separately for Bold Promise; however, submission of the 2026–27 FAFSA by March 31, 2026, is required. Eligible Texas residents who meet program criteria are automatically designated as Bold Promise students.
Tuition and mandatory fees are covered through a combination of scholarships (such as institutional or donor-funded awards), grants (including the Pell Grant, TEXAS Grant or Texas Public Education Grant) and applicable tuition exemptions (such as Hazlewood or Adopted/Foster Care exemptions) from federal, state and institutional sources.
Students who meet all eligibility requirements will receive coverage up to their remaining unmet financial need, that is, the amount left after their cost of attendance is reduced by their Student Aid Index (SAI) and any other need-based aid received.
Bold Promise will not appear as a single award on a financial aid offer. Instead, students will see a combination of gift aid from multiple sources that together cover tuition and mandatory fees.
What’s not covered?
Bold Promise does not cover expenses such as books, health insurance, housing or program-specific supplies (e.g., scrubs or stethoscopes). Students may use other financial aid options, such as loans or work-study, to help cover these costs.
