The student is responsible for payment of the in-state tuition and fees not covered by the waiver. Submit documents to Veteran Services and Financial Aid (VSFA) before census day of the term the student is attending.

  • Competitive Scholarship: Awards are subject to availability of funding and candidates are selected by their academic department. Upon selection, the academic department will inform VSFA to apply the non-resident tuition waiver, if available. The waiver is valid for one academic year and is not guaranteed to renew. Students currently receiving this waiver at another Texas institution should provide proof of the waiver for consideration at UT Health San Antonio. Students must submit any required documents requested by VSFA (such as the VSFA academic year worksheet).
  • Active Duty Military in Texas: Available to the service member, spouse, or dependent residing in Texas. Submit a copy of military orders reflecting assignment in Texas and most recent Leave and Earning Statement (LES). Dependents must also provide a birth certificate and the spouse must provide a marriage license.  Students must submit any required documents requested by VSFA (such as the VSFA academic year worksheet). Submit recent LES for continuation awards.
  • Research Assistants and Teaching Assistants: Waiver requests are submitted once a year certifying the student will be employed at least half time or greater by UT Health San Antonio in a Teaching Assistant (TA) or Research Assistant (RA) position.  Start and end dates of the position cannot exceed a 12 month period and college work study students are not eligible to receive this waiver based solely on their employment as a student worker.  Departments will need to submit proof of student’s appointment as a TA or RA out of the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
    • The student’s academic department must complete the annual request found in the VSFA Forms website for the academic year the waiver will be applied. Students in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences are subject to full-time enrollment. All other students are required to enroll at least half-time. Students currently receiving this waiver at another Texas institution should provide proof of the waiver and enrollment for consideration at UT Health San Antonio.  Students must submit any required documents requested by VSFA (such as the VSFA academic year worksheet).
